Towpath Trail: Big Bend Trailhead north to Beaver Marsh

The evenings will be cooler and the trees will being changing their colors for this ride on the Towpath Trail. We will cycle north to the Beaver Marsh just north of Ira Road and return to the Sand Run trailhead. This section of the Towpath is mainly surfaced with a fine crushed stone with a few sections paved in asphalt. It is very level with minimal road crossings. We will parallel Riverview Road and the Cuyahoga River for most our journey. Once we leave the Portage Path retail area, we will cycle a quiet, scenic portion of the trail.

We will meet in the Sand Run Big Bend Trailhead parking lot off of Merriman Road between Memorial Parkway and Portage Path. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before our wheels-down time on this meet-up.

I enjoyed meeting Nick and Judy. The short version ended up being just fine for me since I hadn't biked in a few weeks.

This was my first experience with the group and with riding on a trail. Although my bike is very old and it was the first time I wore a helmet (!) I had a great time. I especially want to thank Ellen for riding back with me from the Botzum rest stop and for encouraging me with stories about her first ride and that I didn't need to ride all 12 miles to Beaver Marsh and back. After arriving back at the Big Bend parking lot, I was sure glad I listened to her! I still feel like I accomplished my goal by showing up and riding as far as I could. Thank you Tom, Nick and Ellen.
