Level: 3 - Hybrids
Trail: Towpath Trail – Cascade Locks Trailhead (Mustill Store) to Winking Lizard/Peninsula
Distance: 27 miles
Map:
Today we are cycling our members’ favorite, the Towpath Trail from Akron to Peninsula. This is traditionally our first and last weekend ride of the season and is scheduled throughout the cycling season. The group will cycle at about 10-12 mph and stop often. It is an easier ride than you think. We will meet in the Mustill Store parking lot off North Street, just 1 block west of Howard Street. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before our wheels-down time on this meet-up.
The Towpath Trail passes through woodlands during most of this ride. We will cross under Portage Path and up to the ever popular Beaver Marsh before heading into Peninsula and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We'll most likely eat at the Winking Lizard in Peninsula as usual and chat for a while before heading back to Akron. If Szalay’s Farm Market is open, it will definitely be one of our stops.
This ride is rated as a level 3 (Hybrids) as it is a longer ride for the recreational cyclist. Cyclists travel at a pace of 11-13 mph. The ride traverse variable terrain with easy grades with a few short climbs. Distance is usually 15-30 miles. Regroups are common but at the discretion of the ride leader. Rest stops taken as needed.
This ride is scheduled on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists, http://spinoffcyclists.com. We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.
